Natural feat. The Famous Nobodies - Monsters (Prod. Stay Puft)
Fellow #Bargang members,
Today is the day. After months of perfecting what is sure to be received as my best visual yet, “Monsters” is finally here. I just wanted to take this opportunity to give a little bit of background into the project and what the ideas behind it were.
I wrote the treatment for the visual the same week I wrote the treatment for “20 Something”. I clearly wanted something drastically different from anything else I had ever done visually, so I came up with a more dramatic angle. The video is clearly inspired by the 2006 horror film “Hostel”.
I wanted to ensure that the viewer was put into an uneasy viewing experience. The idea behind the “story” to “Monsters” is simple. We wrote the song as an ode to people who were quick to dismiss our collective aspirations of making music. The idea of people “dismissing” us is what turned us into “Monsters”. So as to say, if you tell us we can’t … then you are only helping us out further, because we know we can.
I incorporated this angle into the story by casting Peter Needham as “bad guy”. Pete is also the man behind “Stay Puft Productions” who also happened to produce “Monsters”. The idea of “you’ve created a monster” also correlated to him, as he gave us the beat and as a result? Turned us into “Monsters” on it. That is why we felt having him portray the demon who terrorizes us in the video was such a good twist.
Famous Nobodies were one of the first local groups I became a fan of. I was so thrilled to work with them. “Monsters” marks the first time we are all on the same track. Mark my words, that it will not be the last. I am still so humbled by the list of people I’ve gotten to work with this past year and I am so very proud we are all on this track. They are tremendously talented individuals and huge mentors to me. I am also blessed to be able to call them great friends.
The visual is directed by Seba Films, who also directed “20 Something” and Dutch ReBelle’s “Sunday Morning”. The young talent from Philadelphia is nothing short of brilliant with his skills in this one. From his excellence during shooting to his uncanny abilities in the editing room, we feel “Monsters” delivers. Salute that man.
Today, we present www.naturalhiphop.com. We wanted to drop this in collaboration with the unreal visuals for “Monsters”. Please watch, re-watch and watch again. Share with whomever you choose and please know that this video is meant to be fun—an ode to the horror genre in filmmaking. Anyone who knows me understands violence is the LAST thing I would want to promote in my music … this video was meant to be fun and a stylistic experiment.
This has been a project that involves money, time, and huge amounts of effort. Anyone that takes the time to watch and share? It would be extremely appreciated. Thank you for everything. You guys are the best.
Sincerely,
Natural
